There's Whiskey in the Jar

Oh wow, the days just fly by. I shall finally present to you a compilation of things bought in Scotland .

The candy is obviously already gone, there were three kinds, blue ones (pictured, but from a bad angle) with the Skottish flag (Saltire) with the taste of Irn Bru (Iron Brew, it is the colour of rust), a special Skottish soft drink. The other types of candy I bought were blue raspberry thingies (one of my favourite among the British sweets I've found), and hard apple sweets, which were supposed to be sour, but I failed to notice that. They were good nonetheless.

The oatcakes are made of oatmeal, and taste just like that, porridge. I really like them, Roomie isn't too impressed. I should try making some myself.

As I might have mentioned earlier, there was an art material shop in Glasgow, and it had a big sale going on. The big pad is one with special bleedproof paper, so I can use my cool supermarkers on it without fretting about if it goes through (also endlessly cheaper than Bristol board, that I have been using previously). The drawing above is drawn in that pad. Then there's some refill for my mechanical pencils (even the 0.3 ones were only 50p each, which is a fraction of what they are normally priced at) and one tiny piece of linoleum (for printing).

Above the lino you can see a piece of rock and a flower, both stolen from mother nature on Arthur's seat.

Points to you if you can guess what's in the box, saying Caol Ila 12.

Bright

Brighton was a nice break, but it's good to be back. Now we've got some unnaturally sunny weather for a couple of days. We also had lovely weather on the first day of the trip (although there was a freezing wind of death ever present), but it kept deteriorating as the days went on. Luckily, we didn't experience much rain. I'll stop being such a weather fixated Brit now and throw some pictures at you:

Brighton has a beach! Who would have known!

Where there's a windy beach, you'll inevitably find
mermaids with super flowy hair!

Naturally, an ocean-inspired town is not
complete without some whale-graffiti.

The sun sets even in Brighton.

Guess what? There was a beach!

 This was our hostel. (not)
 Experienced travellers extraordinaire.

Not much interesting to report otherwise.

Flakes

There was a light snowfall today, nothing that would stay on the ground. seems like winter's still trying to remind us of its presence, however slightly. I think it has pretty much given up already, which is all for the better, with our lousy insulation.

It makes, however, for a marvelous opportunity to spam you with some wintery photos from a couple weeks back:

A snowy path, where might it lead. . . ?

 Oh, look! Two friends!

Here's more sturdy fellows at their favourite game, hide and seek.

Not much further exciting things happening here, 'cept on the foody frontier. I'll do an update on that later, as the camera is downstairs, and I am, regrettably, upstairs.

Runeberg

Well well, Runeberg's day (Finnish national poet) came and went (5.2) and, as always with celebrations that give you an excuse to make something nice to eat, we seized the opportunity and baked some Runeberg's Tarts:

Who could say no to something with both icing and jam?

 Quack quack!

The greenhouse (space between curtains and window in living room) has started to show some signs of life! How unexpected.

Cress in a hurry.

Alas, the weekend is drawing near. Tonight is there is indian food on the menu. Homebaked naan-bread, homemade raita/tzatziki, home-marinated chicken pieces . . .

Bonjour à tout le monde!

Today was a marvelously rainy Sunday. The weather was terrific for sitting inside doing nothing. A perfect day to get better. And I have literally just loitered, see, there's no treatment like loitering when it comes to colds. Good old lazing.

I'm trying to justify my not writing a beautiful picture riddled update here. But hey, I've got you something to get started with, a shot of me and roomie:

It is only very slightly photoshopped with a mousepad.

Jet

Hum hum, the days are just flying by, especially since I'm still suffering from jetlag in the form of waking up later in the mornings. 10 a.m. is very late for me. Feels like half of the day has gone by then.

Wet Wet Wet

How horrible. Gaming and preparations for Christmas almost alienates me from the internet.

The web should really try harder.

Looks like there won't be a white Christmas in Southern Finland this year :< There's some hope on Wednesday and Thursday, but after that it's warming up again. Bleh.

After that you can only hope for a white new year instead.

Okay, let's think about something happier.

Like pink text.

That made my day!

La La La

Baked karelian pasties with Roomie until late yesterday. It was cozy and nice, baking while listening to Christmas Carols. We're inviting our neighbours over for afternoon tea on Saturday, and will be treating them to some things they might not get to taste that often here in Britain. Mwahahaha!

Worked as a Student Ambassador for the first time yesterday. Showed some applicants around the school (and got a little monetary gain from it). I also called the local jobcentre, and luckily they had time that afternoon, so I could go there and get my National Insurance Number application filled in.

Productive day, yesterday.

Shameless Self Promotion

I find great fun in designing characters. Especially when they turn out well. I like his tail.

Would be nice to continue on my comic (well, the other comic (and this one too)). I enjoy looking at the result. It's just a bit sad to get great visions of pages, but you still have at least another 150 pages to go (actually no idea) until you reach them. I have recieved a lot of positive feedback though, that's really what keeps me going. That, and to have seen some finished projects in printed form.

Namely Treebone. 160 pages of anthropomorphic swashbuckling adventure. It is ugly and embarassing, but still a really fine little comic.

I still have a few copies left, hey. Give me a shout if you'de like to buy one!
(Preferably if you're Finnish or know me from uni or something)

The cover looks like this.

All right, that's enough self promotion for now, I think! (:

Serenade

Laalilaadadaa. I bet his song is stunningly beautiful. He is a quite dashing gentleman, after all.

Strange Behaviour

Watch out for giggling packs of around 11 year old sugarhigh little girls here in the UK. They're up to no good. Just as I was going to enter Tesco one individual from such a pack walked up to me and groped my behind just like that. My reflexes seem to work, because I automatically grabbed her hand, but I was in such a state of shock that I just kept walking and threw the hand away after a moment. The fact that I grabbed the hand in the first place resulted in extremely frantic and nervous giggling from the groper and her pack. I was halfway into the supermarket before I even realized what had happened.

In retrospective, it would have been interesting to see how they would've reacted if I'd revealed that I was a girl (short hair and baggy clothing equals boy, as we all know. Especially everyone in the women's restroom).

In short:

What the fwup?

I also created an animation today. I'll post it on the blog after I've made some final tweaks to it. It's a proper 2D animation on paper. I drew for about two hours and managed to get five seconds of animation together.
