Story of a Naan

Time for some retroactive foodblogging! Back in January, this happened:

 Dough-slippers!

Through the marvels of the freezer, the last couple of those naan-breads made their final appearance with some other indian food, and alcoholic ginger beer:

How unbelievably exciting!

Tomorrow evening Roomies mom and sis will share us a visit for a couple of days. We'll see what we might pester them with, food-wise, then.

Bloop!

We have some snow here right now, and according to BBC there shall be heavy snowfall tomorrow. Will be interesting to see what that means. At least it's a sunday, hopefully it will thwart the ensuing chaos a little.

We've been to London on a shopping spree, I found all kinds of interesting things, I shall make a coherent post complete with pictures for y'all to enjoy.

Oh, andI actually went swimming! Now I have a one year membership at the Leisure Centre, so for the sake of money spent I will have to go swimming again (I'm sort of aiming for once a week or something).

It's very calming to live in a house in which the heating starts to slack as soon as the temperature outside drops below the freezing point, i.e. when it is needed the most, really. It's just that the thermostat and boiler experience communication difficulties. If they had facebook pages I bet their relationship status would be stated as "It's Complicated". Thus far waving the thermostat in front of the boiler has solved the issue, so we're still alive, however barely.

Bonjour à tout le monde!

Today was a marvelously rainy Sunday. The weather was terrific for sitting inside doing nothing. A perfect day to get better. And I have literally just loitered, see, there's no treatment like loitering when it comes to colds. Good old lazing.

I'm trying to justify my not writing a beautiful picture riddled update here. But hey, I've got you something to get started with, a shot of me and roomie:

It is only very slightly photoshopped with a mousepad.

Veni Vidi Vici

Unflinching, I ventured into the beast's maw, and emerged victorious. Has anyone of you went to IKEA, and only bought one single thing  (keeping to the shopping list in a strict fashion also counts)? I got my worklamp returned and they gave me a voucher, which I used to buy another lamp (which sadly was a couple pounds more expensive than my old one, but it's blue so it's all right). It was all quite hassle-free in the end.

As a bonus I got to see Croydon! It looked like this:

 Resembles an English city, yes?

The old (150 years) department store in the area, Allders was closing for good. It had only six days to go, and was mostly empty already, but I found this:

 Fluffy, colourful textiles! Oh wow!

And that pretty much made my day (: Imagine what I can do with them! Everything is possible.

Roomie had taken care of herself all right while I was gone, she even made a new friend:
Have you ever seen such a fat and green locust or whatever it's called in English. (Grasshopper?)

Tomorrow we'll take the early train to Paris, so au revoir for a little while!

Flapjack!

Made flapjacks today. The recipe said to use brown sugar and golden syrup. We used white sugar and black treacle. They still taste great though.

It was such a beautiful day out there today! Felt as if it was around 20 degrees in the sun. We've heard that a new supermarket will open rather close to our place in April if I recall correctly. Me and Roomie went snooping around and found it! It's rather close, so it will eventually become the cheapest supermarket close to our home. We won't even have to make that much of a detour when walking home from school, for example. There is one that's right on our way home from school, but it's a little bit more expensive than the others, except when it comes to vegetables, I think. So yeah, pretty excited about this, I love going to new supermarkets! I like shopping for food, except for the payment part, unless I get some cool coupons.

I Can't Come Up With A Title (Dragons Ate My Hard Drive Space)

I have a new addition to The List to announce! I have known it for some time, and just yesterday fully realized that I'll need an external hard drive to relieve my computer from some of the stuff that is clogging it up. The important part is that i want the hard drive to be small, handy and portable, it doesn't need to be a five terabyte monster.

----------

The Wishlist (updated!!!):

Essential, serious stuff:

Stick blender
Stavmixer
Sauvasekoitin

Won't need that many of them, I hope.

Crisp rye-bread
Surskorpor
Hapankorppuja

You simply can't find essentials like this in the UK

Money
Pengar
Rahaa

Quite essential.

Bicycle
Cykel
Polkupyörä

Might be best to give me money for this one. Quite difficult to ship.

Can opener
Konservöppnare
Purkinavaaja

The normal, sane, cheap version. I'm sorry Brits, but you've got this all wrong.
Or then I'm just too simple-minded for the fancier versions.

Pot (ha ha, very funny.)
Gryta
Pata

Might once again be better with money, quite heavy to take on the plane.

Cash
Fyrk
Mammonaa

I can't stress this enough.

Money for artist's materials (going to order markers online)
Pengar för konstnärsmaterial (tänker beställa tuscher på nätet)
Raha taiteilijantarvikkeita varten (tilaan netin kautta)

For messing around on paper.

Nice, sharp, big kitchen knife
Trevlig, vass stor kökskniv (eller förskärare)
Mukava, terävä, iso keittiöveitsi

Needn't be that fancy, but preferably one that actually functions properly.
The set of knives we bought isn't the best thing that has happened to us.
The knives are whetted so that the edge is askew, in a way we're not used to have knives,
so we find them really hard to use. What I'm trying to say is that in order to
cut something straight, you have to hold the knife at a strange angle.
We don't like that. The big knife from the set is impossible to cut harder things,
such as potatoes or carrots with.

Small, handy external hard drive
Liten, praktisk extern hårdskiva
Pieni ja näppärä ulkoinen kovalevy

Don't really care about the brand, preferably a quality one though.

Not so essential, but oh so nice stuff:

Bubble bath
Bubbelbad
Kylpykuplia

Because I'm worth it.

Books:

Watership Down
Richard Adams

Cute bunnies hopping around. Nothing more.

Abarat. Absolute Midnight
Clive Barker

Filled with nice illustrations.

The Witches
Roald Dahl

More lovely illustrations.

Fables vol 2. Animal Farm.
Bill Willingham & Mark Buckingham

Because I like Comics.

A Dance With Dragons
George R. R. Martin

I'd really prefer this cover, it would go together with
the rest of my collection. It's a paperback.

Nerdy section:

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney

Intense game of investigating and winning legal cases.

The World Ends With You

Heard it's one of the best games for the DS.
Action-packed role playing game with a great story (i heard)

Professor Layton and The Curious Village

Intelligent and unique puzzle-solving game with an outstanding gameplay.

Bastion

Downloadable from Steam.
Beautiful, unique adventure game with flexible gameplay.

Terraria

Downloadable from Steam.
Do what you want; craft items, explore, build, and hunt.

And the most important section - Sweets:

Something I've been longing for, these won't need explanations.

Dumle

Fazerin Sinivalkoinen
Blåvit Fazer

After Eight

Tupla

Angel-chocolate
Änglachoclad
Enkelisuklaa

Mulled wine concentrate
Glöggconcentrat
Glögitiiviste

Would be nice to be able to drink some back in England even after christmas. . .

Last but not least:

Would be nice to get some visiting relatives and family members here
to fill the fridge with nice expensive stuff such as cheese, meat, cake,
chocolate pudding, cheese, meat and pastries.

No pressure.

(Of course it would be nice to show other parts of the house also.
If lucky, I might even show something else than the supermarkets over here!)
