Hallowed Treats
No trick-or-treating kids behind our door, that means more (cheap but nice) candy for us! (:
Our own halloween treat today is home baked mazarines! Since we hadn't got small cake tins, I baked some bigger ones instead (with help from Roomie):
I've actually never baked mazarines before, but they turned out really good, I think. Maybe I can post some pictures of the "Archipelago Loaf" I baked yesterday. It's this dense, dark bread with treacle, rye flour, malt and all kinds of other nice things. You Finns out there should know what I'm talking about (saaristolaislimppu/skärgårdslimpa).
We ate oven-baked vegetables and potatoes with garlic sauce tonight. It's funny how good you can eat without spending too much money. It's So much cheaper to cook.
Oh, and haven't seen any ghosts yet, unless the speakers at school were possessed today. We were watching a film where Andy Warhol had filmed faces, and every face had it's own song. We heard quite interesting versions of some of the songs. One of the speakers had an on-off day, so it only worked half of the time. The other had an on-cracklesnap day, so when it wasn't working it just mourned its dead sibling or something.
I also resumed work on my comic project last weekend, finally having a desk and all. Still a bit rusty, but it'll get better fast. I will need to get some new markers (and more refill-ink) when I visit Finland. . .
Consider that an unofficial start for my wishlist for Christmas. (I'd rather recieve money for markers, because I'll probably be ordering them from this nice, Finnish online shop anyway.)

Smell Of Food
Longhaired Roomie is making lasagne. And it smells very very promising.
Maybe she'll cook anything I write here right now, and it'll magically appear on the table today! Right. Mmmmm, oh, I'm sure I'm picking up the smell of lime-cheesecake there. . . and crawfish, and .. and.. oh right, chocolate mousse with fresh raspberries.
Of course, there has to be sparkling wine. Anything else wouldn't suffice at all.

Borrowing
Currently writing on Roomie's computer, which she was kind enough to lend me. Thank you! :)
I left my own computer in my locker at uni, since we went grocery shopping straight from there, and I knew I would have to carry a heap of soda cans home, since they have a great offer (12 cans for £2 is not too bad at all).
I mean, if you make homemade hamburgers, you've got to have coke with them, right?

Incorrectly Assembled
My new desk did, as I said, arrive yesterday. What still baffles me with IKEA is how they can manage to text me notifications about the delivery, stating that they will call an hour before delivery, but still be incapable of actually calling me on the very same number they've texted to. So I never recieved a call on the delivery day, the truck just appeared, delivered and went. The desk was slightly bigger than I'd expected. That was probably my own mistake. Still, it's better that it's slightly bigger than smaller. It even fits in the room, WOOOP! I'll post pictures of the refurnished room as soon as I've tidied it up, and moved the desk-stuff to the desk and drawers.
Speaking of drawers, as I assembled the drawer unit that came with my desk I learnt how IKEA-drawers work. At least the ones of this particular kind. Turns out the bigger (pretty much broken) drawer that already was in the room when we moved in had been incorrectly assembled, and that's why it didn't work properly. It has, apparently, been assembled by someone who's, let me guess, too manly to read the instructions, and had put some screws in from the wrong side with raw strength, screwing up the poor piece of furniture. Or then someone in the house was a papyovore, and ate the instructions.
Today I drew this beautiful animation from start to finish. I'm evolving, I think. Soon I'm a level 3 animator. Only 34 experience points to go. (Ha, ha, ha)

Don't watch too much television. Although no one knows what kinds of powers Slugman over there possesses yet. Marvel as he leaves a slimy trail! Baffle at his soft skin! Be amazed by his portable TV!
Today we got our heating turned on, WHUPPAHEY! I had already forgotten that it's possible to survive indoors without triple sweaters. The difference between 14 and 20 degrees Celsius is rather significant, I can tell you.
Tomorrow we'll have our first exhibition at our school. Everyone is going to put work to display. I'll show my animations and some plasticine figures there. Maybe I should take pictures of the installation and post them here afterwards? I'll have to sit in our studio guarding my computer, on which I'll display the animations.
This is starting to be a formidable wall of text here, I think. Maybe it will suffice for today?
Of course it will. Don't be silly.
I really love the heating.

Boink
The lurking shadow from yesterday was only a spider. It was showing off on the wall a little while later. It was the same species as the Living Room Horror, an earlier, not too pleasant aquaintance.
Tomorrow I'll write a proper update. I'll give my roomie permission to step on my toes if I don't do that. There's a lot to write about. I did, for example, eventually receive my desk today.
Now, however, it's too late to write. Notting Hill and assembling my desk and drawer ate my evening.

L on Don
My roomie just saw a giant shadow running under our fireplace. We do not know if it was Spiderman or Mickey Mouse. I'm sure she can't wait to find out.
London looks like this:
And just for argument's sake, the rest of this post will be written in Webdings.
Which actually was quite a fail on my part, since I thought webdings would be similar to Wingdings. My bad.

Pizza with sorbet
There are worse things to eat for dinner than homemade pizza. And worse ways to spend a saturday evening than to watch a movie with friends. I found Rango quite amusing.

Double Decker
London was nice. Someone's legs are going to hurt tomorrow.
I ate Fish and Chips for the first time in my life. Quite nice, actually. We got a delicious garlic sauce instead of mayonnaise, because they were out of the latter.

My schoolday was almost ten hours long. But it was quite interesting, in the end. Tomorrow we're going to London, yay! :D

Strange Behaviour
Watch out for giggling packs of around 11 year old sugarhigh little girls here in the UK. They're up to no good. Just as I was going to enter Tesco one individual from such a pack walked up to me and groped my behind just like that. My reflexes seem to work, because I automatically grabbed her hand, but I was in such a state of shock that I just kept walking and threw the hand away after a moment. The fact that I grabbed the hand in the first place resulted in extremely frantic and nervous giggling from the groper and her pack. I was halfway into the supermarket before I even realized what had happened.
In retrospective, it would have been interesting to see how they would've reacted if I'd revealed that I was a girl (short hair and baggy clothing equals boy, as we all know. Especially everyone in the women's restroom).
In short:
What the fwup?
I also created an animation today. I'll post it on the blog after I've made some final tweaks to it. It's a proper 2D animation on paper. I drew for about two hours and managed to get five seconds of animation together.

Divuj
That creature is called a Divuj (dee-vuy). I made that up right now.
Other exciting news from today is that I bought chocolate! Haven't done that in a very long time, but I've been longing for chocolate for a couple of days, and since I haven't bought any candy in a long time I thought it would be okay. Please say it's okay, because now I've already bought it and eaten of it, so a refund would be impossible.
I also woke up at 5:20 a.m. (okay, technically I woke up 4:15, and I'm not sure if I ever actually fell asleep after that). This clearly states that I really shouldn't go to sleep before 10 p.m, since my body is, apparently, incapable of sleeping much more than eight hours.
So now I'm sitting here all sleepy, but I can't go to sleep in still an hour. Isn't my life miserable?

Junkshop
At last, some pictures from Margate. I liked Margate, it was a beautiful town with steep streets and a long seaside promenade.
This junk-shop was really interesting. They had everything from
meatgrinders to crutches. Very interesting, and quite inspiring too!

Our guests will leave tomorrow, and then we'll have to get used to dinners without wine. Oh, poor us. For my next project I think I'll be doing one or two 2D animations. Wish me luck with drawing hundreds of pictures. I've drawn comics before, so this is the next step, I guess. The next difficulty level in the game of Art.

I Let You Down, Margate
We ate well again. I and Roomie prepared a quite dashing dinner and a very lovely lemonsorbet. Quite refreshening. That sobert. Robert. Robert, my friends, is dead.
So it said on television.
That's today's riddle, from me to you.
Here's some pictures from Margate. As I promised. (I will try my best to put up some of my own pictures tomorrow, okay?)
Here's a picture of a puppy to soothe your wrath:

Delicious Food. Yum.
We got treated by longhaired roomie's mother, and ate out tonight. I haven't eaten out since I moved away from Finland, and it was Absolutely Delicious. Thank you very much!

HORRIDUS
(Horridus, apparently, means furry in latin.)
I ate very well today. Thank you, longhaired roomie. Did you know that cheap cola products may contain gluten. You learn something new every day. I also learnt that Pom Poko was way weirder than I could have imagined. Do watch it, but do it alone if you're sensitive and prude.
wewofema
rIGHT.
I did, just now, solemnly decide that I won't erase anything anympore. I lieds, but now I'm not pulling your leg anymore, I actually did right now. But NOW I wont erase anymore. Here you go, all typos and accidental clicks ri-- drrg, erased it again. It's a n automated process. Hard to.. resist.. the..urge.
I'm not high. I just find this experiment interesting. And I'm in a fUnNy mood after watching Pom Poko. But the food was really good. We had noodle soup and cheesecake. yum. (:
Everyone should try experimental writing every now anbd then. I'ts really refresheing. I writer trerribly itf I can't erase. I'ts especially hard when I have an audience of sniggering roomies + rlonghaired roomei's sister laughing here, and making me laugh. I think thais experiment is showing that my finger's can't keep up with my brain. I have clumsy , slow fingers. Luckily, I'm not a pianist.
Klka-- sorry. I'll try agiain.
Klaxon is a funny word. Good night.
(go POM POKO)

I'm Clean
Today our class went on a trip to Margate, and visited a contemporary art museum. I also visited a handful of galleries, and an interesting junkshop. Right now, however, I'm a bit too tired to upload photos or write anything long and coherent. I am also in need of a shower. In about an hour the longhaired roomies mother and sister come to visit (yay! Adventure!). That's not why I'm going to take a shower, that won't fool them. Also, I'm not writing about me washing myself in order to promote how hygienic I am to the world (note that this probably is the first time I've mentioned I actually wash up every now and then). Speaking of showers, the bathtub is a lovely invention. A week or two ago I took a little to hot bath, and had to cool down afterwards with a pounding head. At least my blood circulation got some exercise then. I really don't know why I'm talking about this. Might as well spill it all out:
I have a dry scalp.

Darkness
I must admit that I really like the darkening evenings. There's something about them that makes me feel warm. cozy and happy inside. For all the Brits' sake I shouldn't hope for snow (I heard everything becomes a total chaos if they get as much as a centimetre of snow over here, luckily I can walk to uni), but boy do I like dark nights with white snow. Mmm. and warm mulled wine.

£££
Ended up getting a bank account with a monthly fee. The free account had a rather dodgy debit card which would only have free withdrawals a the bank's own cash machines, and would only work in so many shops. Well, at least I got a savings account in the same package, with a not at all bad interest rate of 2%. Now I'll just need to alchemise some money out of thin air to put into it. The account I got also lets me rent three moves a month for free, whoop-de-doo, and also download a five tracks from HMV a month.
And the day after tomorrow we'll be going on a trip to Margate (another seaside town) with uni.

Seaside Town
We had a lecture about surrealist and dada film in the early 20th century, it was really interesting. I also finally saw Andalusian Dog, have only seen parts of it before. We had another 'lecture' in the afternoon, during which we watched a film about an artist who did a really big project in the US, it was also interesting.
Here's some pictures from Whitstable (a lovely seaside town in East Kent, England)

It was really cold that day, but nothing that a hardy Finn can't handle. Especially with a cup of hot chocolate (with tiny marshmallows!) in a cozy café.

Oh Let Me Be Your Sledgehammer
If all the chips (or crisps, as they're called here in Britain, since chips are french fries. Like, duh) were hand made, they'd be way more expensive, I reckon. But the ones I made did taste good. Didn't last too long though, sadly.
Ilied talked about putting up images from Whitstable in this post Well, here's some pictures from there. My images will maybe appear tomorrow. See, I have been quite busy today. Reading, frying, baking, playing, grocery shopping, eating. . . well you get the picture. Then I was forced to watch an artistic animation, plus a couple of episodes of Flying Circus, and last but not least (but it was actually the one we watched first) a:
marvellous music video.
(catchy song too. Thanks longhaired roomie.)
While you're baffled and bedazzled by that piece of art, I'll go to sleep. Don't forget to analyze the lyrics.
(I kind of like how the sentences I write in the 'labels' section become rather cryptic when the words are arranged in alphabetical order. See it as a little extra challenge. Or a cheap laugh.)

Meatballs
Well, today we went on a trip to Whitstable, a nice little seaside town. I'll post some pictures tomorrow, I think.
Tonight, I'll serve you a picture of today's menu instead!
Tonight, I'll serve you a picture of today's menu instead!
Yes, that is entirely in accordance with the plate method
Mmmm. . . home made meatballs, served with mashed potatoes topped with a dollop of butter, and further completed with a creamy sauce and boiled broccoli, carrot and leek.
Isn't student food just dreadful?

Drip drop
Well, it eventually turned cold here too. Not neccesarily outdoors (not during mid day-afternoon at least), but boy is it cold inside the house now. I mean, seriously cold. Putting on another sweater doesn't really help. Eating warm food and drinking hot beverages helps temporarily, but as a poor student one can't really afford to eat all the time. And it is a tad early to turn on the heating, I think.
Another funny thing is that we haven't been able to get any response from our landlord's agent since we refused to have a cleaner come into the house. I seriously hope he's just on vacation, and that this isn't the uh.. very grown up reaction it seems to be.

Hedgehog
Otherwise we had a group meeting with our tutor, and assessment of the last task. Or more like, discussing our works with the group and the tutor, and getting suggestions and feedback on how to continue from here. It went quite well for me, I'd say. So well that I have rather free hands now. And that is quite challenging.
