Chocolate Is A Girl's Best Friend

There's some crazy weather over here. We had a terrible storm sweeping across the land, about 300 000 houses without electricity, some will be for days. On the other hand it's good that it's otherwise warm, but for people with melting freezers even a couple of degrees on the minus side could be helpful.

Christmas eve was nice, and I actually got a couple of the things from my wishlist (and money for the rest, or at least the essentials, I'd say! So thanks to everyone for that). Lots and lots of chocolate and money! Mwahaha!

The morning on Christmas Day was really beautiful. However, it did turn to the usual mush later.

Frosty Wonderland!

It's MAGIC!

Oh Ham

Busy busy Christmas! Tomorrow Father Christmas comes to visit, and I've been REALLY nice, so I think I might get something! (See, here in Finland, the Big day is 24th of December. 25th is for eating ham, chocolate, ham, chocolate and ham.)

Flakes

Today we actually got a fling of winter, with snow and everything, wow! And I got a dashing haircut at Roomie's yesterday. Yes, can't avoid them even though we don't live under the same roof right now, clingy persons! xD

Snowflakes lit up in the night. Almost like a small whirling rain of stars.

Luckily they aren't, otherwise it could get quite hot.

Jet

Hum hum, the days are just flying by, especially since I'm still suffering from jetlag in the form of waking up later in the mornings. 10 a.m. is very late for me. Feels like half of the day has gone by then.

Wet Wet Wet

How horrible. Gaming and preparations for Christmas almost alienates me from the internet.

The web should really try harder.

Looks like there won't be a white Christmas in Southern Finland this year :< There's some hope on Wednesday and Thursday, but after that it's warming up again. Bleh.

After that you can only hope for a white new year instead.

Okay, let's think about something happier.

Like pink text.

That made my day!

Whoah

Watching old baby videos from one's infanthood is quite fun and nostalgic.

Well, this one was three hours long. xD

It's Finland, Finland!

From one cold and wet country to another! There wasn't really snow here in southern Finland when I arrived, but today we've got some slush, so there's a thin layer of extremely wet and mushy snow in some places. I was just amazed when I was eating breakfast. Everything I could dream of was there on the table. That is ham, medwurst and cheese.

Here's another gingerbread picture. See? I didn't forget about them! Hrrm.

You're beautiful, it's true.

Wuhey!

Flap Flap

Next post will be made in Finland, see you there, Finns! Now I'll just have a quick lunch, pack the last things, and go. We gave our neighbours Christmas cards, and they offered to give us a lift to the train station! One hundred nice-points to them!

SWOOSH!

(edit: HEY, this was the 100th post! Wow-ow!)

Glörp

Pack-pack-packing! Clean-clean-cleaning! But most of that I will have to do tomorrow morning, because I finished off the last of my fabulous home made presents today. I'll post a picture After Christmas, bwahahaha!

Tomorrow I'll switch back to my Finnish SIM, for those of you who are concerned.

Gwip gwop gwup. Surreal.

Fuse

Been quite busy again. Flying tomorrow, and there's still some things to be done before that. Today the fuse went when I tried to turn on the lights in the kitchen, but I handled this tremendously difficult task like an adult and fixed it right away (located the fuse-box and pressed a switch).

Maths

It feels like I have growing pains in my legs, I assume that it's justy my body feeling playful. What a prankster!

Longhaired Roomie made some delicious chick-pea "steaks", thank you, yum yum!

I've probably used at least £10 of photographic paper during my two darkroom sessions. Luckily it's all included in my tuition fee, which is a little more than £10, I can tell you. For you who are feeling rich, solve this puzzle, and send the sum to me.

O=0 (that's the letter "O" equals zero)

Every letter resembles a number, so for example every E needs to be the same number.

Thank you!

Gore

I'm starting to realize that I don't have much time left here at all before flying away.

Woooooo. . .

I came up with one more thing for The Wishlist: A wall calendar would be quite nice to have.

It's raining outside, quite cozy. We watched Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth, I think it was okay and that he has an important point, but living in England has made me posh, so I couldn't help but hear his southern state accent. Oh well.

-----

The Wishlist (updated!!!):

Essential, serious stuff:

Stick blender
Stavmixer
Sauvasekoitin

Won't need that many of them, I hope.

Crisp rye-bread
Surskorpor
Hapankorppuja

You simply can't find essentials like this in the UK

Money
Pengar
Rahaa

Quite essential.

Bicycle
Cykel
Polkupyörä

Might be best to give me money for this one. Quite difficult to ship.

Can opener
Konservöppnare
Purkinavaaja

The normal, sane, cheap version. I'm sorry Brits, but you've got this all wrong.
Or then I'm just too simple-minded for the fancier versions.

Pot (ha ha, very funny.)
Gryta
Pata

Might once again be better with money, quite heavy to take on the plane.

Cash
Fyrk
Mammonaa

I can't stress this enough.

Money for artist's materials (going to order markers online)
Pengar för konstnärsmaterial (tänker beställa tuscher på nätet)
Raha taiteilijantarvikkeita varten (tilaan netin kautta)

For messing around on paper.

Nice, sharp, big kitchen knife
Trevlig, vass stor kökskniv (eller förskärare)
Mukava, terävä, iso keittiöveitsi

Needn't be that fancy, but preferably one that actually functions properly.
The set of knives we bought isn't the best thing that has happened to us.
The knives are whetted so that the edge is askew, in a way we're not used to have knives,
so we find them really hard to use. What I'm trying to say is that in order to
cut something straight, you have to hold the knife at a strange angle.
We don't like that. The big knife from the set is impossible to cut harder things,
such as potatoes or carrots with.

Small, handy external hard drive
Liten, praktisk extern hårdskiva
Pieni ja näppärä ulkoinen kovalevy

Don't really care about the brand, preferably a quality one though.

Wall Calendar
Väggkalender
Seinäkalenteri

So that I'll know what to do and when.

Not so essential, but oh so nice stuff:

Bubble bath
Bubbelbad
Kylpykuplia

Because I'm worth it.

Books:

Watership Down
Richard Adams

Cute bunnies hopping around. Nothing more.

Abarat. Absolute Midnight
Clive Barker

Filled with nice illustrations.

The Witches
Roald Dahl

More lovely illustrations.

Fables vol 2. Animal Farm.
Bill Willingham & Mark Buckingham

Because I like Comics.

A Dance With Dragons
George R. R. Martin

I'd really prefer this cover, it would go together with
the rest of my collection. It's a paperback.

Nerdy section:

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney

Intense game of investigating and winning legal cases.

The World Ends With You

Heard it's one of the best games for the DS.
Action-packed role playing game with a great story (i heard)

Professor Layton and The Curious Village

Intelligent and unique puzzle-solving game with an outstanding gameplay.

Bastion

Downloadable from Steam.
Beautiful, unique adventure game with flexible gameplay.

Terraria

Downloadable from Steam.
Do what you want; craft items, explore, build, and hunt.

And the most important section - Sweets:

Something I've been longing for, these won't need explanations.

Dumle

Fazerin Sinivalkoinen
Blåvit Fazer

After Eight

Tupla

Angel-chocolate
Änglachoclad
Enkelisuklaa

Mulled wine concentrate
Glöggconcentrat
Glögitiiviste

Would be nice to be able to drink some back in England even after christmas. . .

Last but not least:

Would be nice to get some visiting relatives and family members here
to fill the fridge with nice expensive stuff such as cheese, meat, cake,
chocolate pudding, cheese, meat and pastries.

No pressure.

(Of course it would be nice to show other parts of the house also.
If lucky, I might even show something else than the supermarkets over here!)

Sunbathers

Baked the last of the gingerbread today, and then me, Roomie and Finnish Friend had a great deal of fun decorating them. Here's a paragon example of what I achieved to create:

I think they resemble the trio living here.
The crazy looking one in thecorner
(yes, with the red eyes)is probably
Finnish Friend xD

We can't be sure.

Who knows, maybe I'll be good enough to post some more pictures during the incoming week?

Cozy

Was quite a nice christmassy feeling when we treated our neighbours. The Finnish things were also recieved well, I even ended up giving the gingerbread recipe with them when they left. Now it's less than a week until we fly to Finland, and feast on meat and cheese (I hope). (:

Slop

Starting to get sloppy in my daily routine, am I not?

Oh well.

Today our neighbours are coming over for afternoon tea, the ones who treated us to a sunday roast way back then. Going to serve them some Finnish goodies. . . mwahahaha!

Kong

Isn't the old King Kong the best movie ever made? At least Longhaired Roomie thinks so, thus we watched it today! (: She's absolutely enthralled by the woman's acting skills. I saw this movie once before, it's funny how much you forget.

I thought the tyrannosaurus was cute.

Made gingerbread dough today! Yay! It tastes so good. The dough itself, y'know. Mmmm!

La La La

Baked karelian pasties with Roomie until late yesterday. It was cozy and nice, baking while listening to Christmas Carols. We're inviting our neighbours over for afternoon tea on Saturday, and will be treating them to some things they might not get to taste that often here in Britain. Mwahahaha!

Worked as a Student Ambassador for the first time yesterday. Showed some applicants around the school (and got a little monetary gain from it). I also called the local jobcentre, and luckily they had time that afternoon, so I could go there and get my National Insurance Number application filled in.

Productive day, yesterday.
