Oxram

(sorry for the smudge)

All of a sudden uni started, wow! Today I had sculpture. We started with creating our own tools and building an armature, then we went on to preparing clay (this is the first time I've mixed the tiny bits (or in this case powder) into the clay. It's always been there before), and the preparing teqhnique was also different. Afterwards while chatting with the technician I heard it's easier to get the one we used today right for most people. The so called ramshead technique (which I know by the name ox technique) which I've been taught gets a while to get used to. But I guess that means I can use it in the future. I'm more comfortable with it.

Roomie coloured her hair (tecnically, I coloured it for her), so now it's ice mahogany brown. Hope this wasn't classified information.

Say - - - - - -

Today's biggest and most wonderful news is (oh wow I almost made a grammatical megablunder writing are after news. Luckily I saw it, they would've sent me away from England otherwise, I think. . .) that I bought both cheese and bacon today, because I and Roomie are going to make us some lovely carbonara, yeah!

We were proper, voting citizens again yesterday when we went to London and the embassy. We also met The Flf (Finnish London Friend), and got to see her cozy place. There was also food. And cookie bisquits. And candy.

Also, glass fever thermometers seem to be hard to find in the UK, Roomie broke Longhaired Roomie's thermometer (luckily it wasn't filled with mercury, so it was easier to clean up), and today I went to the pharmacy to ask and they said they haven't seen one of those in ages.. hmm.

Confuseder Than Confucius

Armed with Strepsils for 50p from the pharmacy's clearance rack, I've decided that I'm not ill anymore! I'll start to live life normally like a non-ill person (after almost a month, one starts to get alienated), hoping my body starts to believe I'm okay too. I think fresh air can be good. I feel quite alright, but the thermometer claims I've still this minifever going on (on/off, mind you). Wish me luck!

Talking about pharmacies, they are terribly different here in England from what I'm used to back in Finland. In Finland pharmacies sell medicines, some cosmetics and hygiene products, and some special sweets. You can access all medicines you don't need a prescription for in the racks, and prescription medicines from a special counter.

Well, here in England a pharmacy i a place where you get food, cosmetics, bath-products, hygiene stuff, toys, clothes. . . basically it's almost like a supermarket with a medicine section (ironically, many big supermarkets have built-in pharmacy-sections, so the difference is ever so slight. I think you can't get fresh eggs at a British pharmacy. Yet). 15% medicine, 85% stuff. I don't know, but I think it's rather strange to sell regular fatty, salty, sugary snacks at a pharmacy, but I guess it's just me being old-fashioned. Don't get me wrong, I like chocolate and chips/crisps, I just don't go to a pharmacy to buy them, my mind doesn't work like that. It hasn't adapted to the new world order.

Another funny thing is that only a selected amount of the prescription-free medicines are on display in the racks, the rest is hidden behind a counter. And there is a different counter for prescriptions. Then on the other hand you can get many regular medicines in supermarkets, even in those without a pharmacy section. This I find quite practical, in order to even get ibuprofen in Finland you need to seek out a pharmacy. Then again on the other hand it makes things clearer:

Supermarket = No medicines, Pharmacy = Mostly medicines and related stuff.

The world is truly a magical place.

(oh yeah, and the Finnish presidential elections went to a second round, yeah!)

(oh yeah furthermore, I'm against SOPA and PIPA, although I'm not from the US. But in the 0,0000012 chance an US senator reads this, please take my opinion in account. I also know that SOPA already got shelved, but y'know, in case of a time paradox or the future or something like that.)

Art

Story of the disappearing ghost cat. . . Best sketch ever made!

It's funny how it's always like this. When Longhaired Roomie went on a trip to Sweden, Roomie fell ill the very next day. So for a day or two we were two ill persons alone here (it sounds way more dramatic than it was, just a lot of loitering). Then, yesterday, after I'd went on a courageous trip to the supermarket, my fever was gone. Well, today Roomie's fever was gone too, but I got mine back again! Grrr.

Note to self: watching Alien might make you ill.

Or, then it was this. . . err. . . awesome trailer we found afterwards on the lovely Internet:

Huzzah!

Seriously.

Comic Rant

Ooh, what's this? Colour! I'm trying out the new markers I bought during Christmas break. Skin colored ones. For drawing humans. Which is already hard without having to colour them. So I need to practice. I've also actually been writing down something like a script for my comic, and I realize that it will take forever to finish. I've written tens of pages, without very much happening. Poor dryad will age fifty years before getting to leave that forest.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy working on it, and I think it should be allowed to be slow paced, because my personal opinion is that tree spirits simply aren't as stressed as the regular human. In fact, I don't even know what's going to happen. I have a concept and some checkpoints, but at this point I don't even know what's really waiting for her when she finally gets out. I should probably sit down and think the whole story out, so that I'd know how to wrap it up and end it. Anyway, keep your eyes open. Who knows, in ten years you might get the chance to buy this comic in printed form. If printed books exist then.

Tatetatatutu

Wow, now I've been a proper person. I've voted and went to Tate Modern (huge contemporary art museum). I almost fell asleep on the train back. You simply don't have that much energy after being ill for so long, y'know.

Loropop (Longhaired Roomie's Father) gave Longhaired Roomie knives. Big, sharp knives. They make me want to cut things all the time. Vegetables, sausage, fingers, throats. . . >:D

They're really nice. Almost as nice as hot chocolate with whipped cream. Almost.

Brblrblrlrblr

I was slightly confused the other day when Longhaired Roomie said I haven't updated my blog in a while, because I actually had dreamed that I'd written a long and beautiful post the night before. Hmm. Well, I can write a long and beautiful post now instead.

I'm still slightly ill. That's two weeks. Hopefully the fever will go all the way down today (now it's the ever-so-slight 36,9 when my normal temperature is around 36,5). Tomorrow I'm supposed to go to London in order to vote (presidential election in Finland). The embassy in quite close to Harrods, so Roomie, Longhaired Roomie and Finnish Friend will finally see it (I've already seen it, made the pearl of Helsinki, Stockmann, look like little better than Lidl.

We're Flying The Flag. . .

(sorry for the title)

Well, today I'll be flying back to England, dad sent me to see a doctor, and I got some drugs medicine to make me better. Side effects might be hallucinations, palpitations, shaky hands, sleepyness and sleeplessness. Feeling a bit better already, I still have this obnoxious little fever that just doesn't know when to stop.

The day after tomorrow is the first assessment, oh yeah! My first goal is to survive today's trip, wish me luck!

Still Alive, However Barely

Haven't written in ages, so here's a super suave smoking and (wine) sipping son (of a ladyraffe) for you. That's five s's

wow.

Reasons for not updating:

Minor: Laziness, Christmas break, busyness

The big one: I came down with a fever last friday (December 30th) and it's still there. It was on it's highest on New Year's Eve (of course) when it was a whopping 39,5 C, so I went to sleep at eleven p.m. (watched some Mr Bean first, it was really nice. I did wake to all the crackles and bangs of the fireworks at twelve, but I pretty much just turned over to the other side and fell asleep again.) I was staying at Roomie's then, and they took such great care of me, so thank you very much again. We were supposed to go to another friend's place to celebrate, but it turned out she also had a fever, so the party never took place.

My fever's stayed at 37,4 C since then. Too little to be alarmed, too much to be able to do much else than rest, and be bored and slightly stressed by the situation, since there are things I should get done before leaving to England. Hoping everyday that it'll go down: measuring in the morning - 37,2 - yay! Midmorning - 37,0 - WHOO this is it! Afternoon - 37,4 - Grrrr. . . Next morning 37,4 - oh, great.

Who knows, maybe I'm stuck with an ever-fever that'll last for weeks. Here I was hoping that I wouldn't need to be ill while traveling.

We'll see. Place your bets!

Oh, and hope the year has been nice for you this far! Yes, you over there.
