Hallarons

Gotta use beautiful sketches this close to halloween.

Bro and his gf came and went, we ate in, ate out, saw the cathedral, the castle and the city. It was really nice, if anyone else is thinking about visiting, you're more than welcome. Especially if you bring some wine with you. I'm baking some dark greyish blue macarons for the halloween monster cake tomorrow, so stay tuned for pretty pictures. Roomie hatched the splendid plan that we should eat tortillas tomorrow.

There were no objections.

Alms

The evening was a success, our guests liked the food, and what's even better, they brought a lot of gifts with them:

And I do mean a lot.

We ate proper meat soup (I had to hunt an appropriate piece of meat across town. . . still couldn't find one with a bone), karelian pasties, archipelago loaf and last but not least banoffee ice cream with hot caramel sauce.

Tomorrow bro and his gf come to visit, we'll make them eat poached eggs for breakfast, now that we have some of these lovely, fresh eggs. We got even more today, apparently Di,s hens lay way more eggs than they can eat. . .

Oh yeah, didn't go to London after all, the other Finnish Friend in Bournemouth was ill, so she couldn't come, and she pretty much was the reason we were going, so we chose not to. We'll have to try it again soon.

Slow

People have started to nag about me not having blogged in a while. . I didn't realize until I checked just now that I haven't actually updated in almost two weeks!

Time really does fly sometimes.

We'll cook dinner soon enough, so I'll keep this short. We'll make some yoghurt marinated chicken thighs with homebaked naan. Yeah baby! Yesterday we had wok with roasted sesame seeds, and drinks both before and afterwards, as Longhaired Roomie in her benevolence let us have some of her sparkling wine. I mixed some ruby red drinks for dessert.

Bro and his girlfriend will be visiting in a week, we'll have to come up with something nice to eat then. We've invited over two friends from school next wednesday, we'll have to make them some nice food too. And the friday after Bro's visit another friend from uni will come over, so we'll have to cook something nice again.

Gosh, that's a lot of cooking.

Aside from food, I've been doing this and that, here's something concrete, just a fun little project. I found a challenge on the web about drawing 100 of one's original characters, and I started digging in my old stories:

Bigger version here.

Here's some notes on the characters (I wrote all of this late one night, and haven't checked for typos. . .). Feel free to skip. (copied from my deviantART page)

So, I decided to take on the 100 OC challenge. All characters included here are created between 2004-2010, I think. Every character is quite significant, (if I'd include super minor characters I'd probably fill another one, but it wouldn't really be that interesting), but then I've always been creating stories, so these fellows naturally just pile up.

The biggest character groups are from (in order of character appearange in dump. Top to bottom:

Treebone
A story about a pirate crew. I finished one story arc and printed a book (160 pages) a couple of years back, started drawing on the next arc. As I still haven't finished the first chapter after the book, it's safe to say Treebone is slightly stalled.

Treebone had a predecessor, Ferdinand Fiskmås (Ferdinand Gull) drawn in a much cuter and simpler style. Many characters (almost all of the main cast) are originally from Ferdinand Fiskmås, and some haven't moved on to Treebone (yet). I created one finished story (35 really full (tiny panels) pages or something) that one 3:rd price in a competition.

Tales of Korulia

I think that was the name of the thing. This was going to be my epic fantasy novel. Or computer game. Or both. It featured quite an impressive main cast. The story is a bit foggy nowadays, I can only recall some bigger events, but not even the main plot.

The Golden Sausage (Den Gyllene Korven)

A fantasy saga (hey, it has two parts!) created as two different assignments in Jr. High (one was to write a fantasy story, and a year later we were supposed to make a book).

So, it's about a girl, Trinda Alfonsson who travels through a lunch-porridge portal to a fantasy island - Sitnalta (this story is downright littered with reversed words, just because I could). She beats a great evil with the help of the mythical artifact: The Golden Sausage. End of story. Then she travels back in the second part, makes some new friends and beats the great evil's brother, through combining The Golden Sausage with another magical relic - The Silver Mustard.

Forest Comic

It hasn't got a name yet. It's my most recent comic project, about a dryad that ventures out of her forest out of curiosity (a rare trait among tree spirits).

Laure in the Wastes

This comic thingie hasn't got a name either. Laure is looking for something, or many things, really, and is trevelling far and wide. In the beginning of the comic she's in a desert, hence 'wastes'.

(can you tell, perchance, with which one's I'm trying to withhold information?)

Please note that I've taken some liberty in rewamping these characters as I revisited them for this challenge. It was fun to do.

Food Blog

Whupp! School's started, I got a quite nice, big studio space, maybe I'll take pictures of it when it's sufficiently messy. Until that, I'll give you dome pictures of food, in reversed chronological order:

Home-made pork dumplings with chilli-garlic dipping sauce. So goood!

Roomie baked a lime-chocolate cake, and I made some vanilla ice cream to go with it.
So Good.

Home made milk chocolate-passionfruit truffles. SO goOOood!

Also made some lime sorbet and fancy drinks, and pizza, and curry with homebaked naan-bread lately, but I don't have pictures of everything. Y'know, sometimes you just have to eat the stuff too. I know, horrible isn't it. (I have to admit that we actually do eat instant noodles too.)

Kela (the thing in Finland that helps financing my student life) messed around a bit, just to taunt me, I suppose. They sent me a letter with a paper to fill in and send back to them with the proper evidence that I've been attending school and so forth. The thing is, that I had sent them approximately half a kilo of papers not too long ago, and everything should be fine. Roomie had sent them the very same papers, and she'd gotten an "all OK" letter. Well, the very next day I recieved my own "all OK" letter, but at that point my hair had already turned gray, so thank you very much. I'm just relieved that everything's fine now. Probably some darn intern messing things up. . .

Not much more exciting happening, except that just as I was writing this I got a BlueScreen of Death, which is rather exciting.
